What do you think AB has been working really hard on lately...You are mistaken if you think it was his performance in Raavan...Woh tho sirf Aish kar raha tha...or simply put in english...."AB was doing Aish". This is evident in Ash's growing assets.
Directors in India have again started looking back at some of the great plots and sub plots offered in Indian Mythology…Thanks to Prakash Jha and Maniratnam.
Maniratnam has been successful in most of his previous attempts to retell the Indian Mythology in contemporary form. The plot was obvious, the only thing to look in the movie was the performances and this one let me down. AB does not live up to the standards of Mammotty (Duryodhana) and Rajnikanth (Karna) in Dalapathy. I am disappointed and this is a bad tribute to the ULTIMATE VILLAIN known to Indians.
A true villain is supposed to create fear in you, create respect for him for his intelligence and his cunning behaviour. Well this villain is bland...its like having curd rice when you want to taste a chilly chicken.
I will not dwell more on the plot or the sub plots which is obvious. Raavan kicks off directly with the kidnapping of Ragini (Ash). AB has failed miserably as Beera (Raavan). AB needs to take lessons from Manoj Bajpai (Bhiku Matre in RGV’s Satya portrayed a character who was eccentric, brilliant, cool etc). AB is misfit as Raavan. And the other misfit was Vikram .Vikram looks like a confused guy throughout the movie (I am sure he will do a great job as Raavan in the Tamil version).
Ash holds the movie together. The ethereal beauty looks stunning in every scene and has made good use and show of her assets and ofcourse her acting skills. Most of the movie is shot in some breath taking locales. All credit to Santosh Sivan. Rahman has given better scores earlier and this is not his best work.
Govinda as Hanuman, Nikhil as Lakshmana and Priyamani as Shoorpanakha do justice to their small roles. Ravi Kishen as AB’s brother steals the show with great comic timing.
I think Mani and AB should render an apology to Valmiki for making a mockery of the ULTIMATE VILLAIN's character.
Watch this movie only if you like to watch the most beautiful woman flaunting her assets in some great locales.
Think About It: Did you Know that Rama and Sita were the first couple to get a divorce?
